Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer ActivitiesThe Maroon Volunteer Center serves as a clearinghouse to match volunteers with community partners and service opportunities both on and off campus. The MVC also helps support service based student organizations and events including the Service DAWGS, The Big Event, and countless others. Finally, the MVC compliments the mission of Mississippi State University by building service and philanthropic partnerships with campus and community organizations.

Maroon Edition Habitat for Humanity House
Fall 2009

In conjunction with MSU’s First-Year Reading Experience of “A Painted House,” the Maroon Volunteer Center has partnered with the Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity to build (and paint!) the first ever Maroon Edition Habitat for Humanity house. The house, to be built at 249 Greenwood Street in Starkville, will be the new home of the Randle/Harvey family.

Freshmen participating in Service DAWGS Day will make a big push on the house starting August 10, 2009, and freshman volunteers will continue to support the build throughout Dawg Daze week (Aug. 10-15). After the initial push, upperclassmen and the rest of the MSU family will join in and support the efforts until the house is completed.

To view house plans or make a donation, please visit the Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity website.

Service DAWGS Day
August 10, 2009

Each fall, to kick off the coming semester, Service DAWGS hosts a campus-wide day of service that provides incoming freshmen, returning students, and university faculty and staff the opportunity to make new friends and give back to the Starkville community. After a morning of projects, all participants are invited back to campus for a celebratory meal.

Local Agencies

The cities that make up the Golden Triangle Region are home to many agencies that benefit from volunteer support. These organizations offer a variety of services that keep our communities healthy. The Maroon Volunteer Center works closely with these entities to coordinate service opportunities that meet the needs of underserved populations. If you’re looking for a place to volunteer your time, or you simply want to learn more about the needs that exist in our area, these agencies are a great place to start.

Find your interest area below, and then contact the Maroon Volunteer Center to find out how you can put your skills to work for one of the agencies listed.
